"The Oldest Tree In The Forest"

I feel a rhythm
I feel it in my toes,,,
Do you feel it too?
This is my forest.
This is where I sink my toes
into the mossy green earth.
This is where I run
and chase butterflys
This is where I listen
to my forest sing.
Yes,,, I feel the rhythm in my toes.

This is Methusula,,,,,
She can almost touch the stars.
She is the tallest tree in the forest.
She stands so proudly
She casts shadows
as the evening
comes rolling in.
Her strong branches
are like shelters
to all the trees around her.
She is the oldest tree in the forest.
Do you feel the rhythm?

Sometimes, all the trees talk.,,,,,,
but Methusula is the best stoty teller of all.
I love to listen to the stories.
This is a story that started like this,,,,,
"Once upon a time,,,,
A raging storm came barrelling out of the sky!
The winds blew
The winds howled
and sometimes
the wind would make us fall.
The winters were so very cold,
we shivered !
Sometimes our branches
became cracked and withered.
and sometimes our branches
tumbled to the ground.
In the long hot summer,
we would sing for the rains to come.
We needed the rains
to quench our thirst,
We needed the rain
to wash our dusty needles.
Little birds that perched on our branches,
well,,,,
they needed water too.

I sat quietly listening to Methusula.
I was pondering,
when all of a sudden Methusula asked me to come and place my paws on her trunk.
I reached my paws ,,,
as high as I could
and I placed my hands on the soft moss ,,,
I felt her heart beating,,,,,
I felt the rhythm,,,,
I felt the beat, beat, beat.
Methusula said softly.,,,,
"You see, I am old, and I am leaning.
My roots are tangled yet they are very strong.
Someday, I will fall, but my time has not yet come.
My heart will beat as long as the rhythm lives in the forest.
You must also keep the rhythm in your heart,,, "

My forest is old, but it will never be forgotten.
I will protect my forest.....by keeping the rhythm beating.
I will keep Methusula standing,,,, she will never fall.
I will find a way.
Sometimes when my mind feels jumbled,
I walk the bunny trails in this forest.
Sometimes I find treasures right before my eyes.
I never know what I may find, until I search.
This is my forest, this is where I find the rhythm that beats in my heart.
Nitey nite my friends
love

Absolutely beautiful..thanks for this...trees are my daddy's passion and their property is covered with many different types and sizes. Yes, storms come and knock them down but that doesn't deter them from putting in new ones. Trees are so spiritual.!

Like you I love to roam around the forests and mingle with old trees, I know they communicate with other trees and to human only they don't speak they way they do but they do have a way of communicating with humans and dogs like us! They will never die, they will only fall but mystery, memories and stories will remain forevah!

Hi Tweedles, nice to meet you. I found your blog from a suggestion from another pug loving person on Facebook.
From your forest photos, you must live in Oregon, as we do as well.
We will for sure bookmark your blog!

Hi Tweedles! Your story made me feel like I was there in the forest with you and Methusula. I feel the rhythm when I walk in the forest, on the beach, or in town. The rhythm is with me everywhere I go and it is always beating in my heart.

I love your forest and I can't wait until your magic bubble gets here to take me back to your forest. We will run and play in the forest and visit with Methusula. Maybe she will let us sit under her and then we can all sing songs. We will hold paws and fall to sleep, gazing up at the stars through Medusula's branches.

Stubby xoxo

Don't fall off that log Tweedles, if you do I will have to have one of your magic bubbles to come and save you. At least I know you would have a soft landing on the moss.
If there is a twig to spare do you think you could save me one of those that your beautiful tree's don't want anymore. I could suck it. I wouldn't bite it... promise :-)
lots of luv Amie Soto Blossom. x x x

Delightful story about Methuselah. I think she is asking you to be her helper in keeping the forest safe. What an honor that is! I know she chose the right Pug to fulfill this mission. I love your forest and all the beautiful things that dwell within it, most of all you.

We have to just imagine what it must be like to walk in a forest with giant trees. Most of the trees around here are small and young. You did such a great job of letting us feel the rhythm in our hearts. Great story, Tweedles.

Hi Tweedles & Tweedles Mom! I really loved this post! What a beautiful story and amazing forest you have!!!! You both know how I feel about the forest and was sad to see that part of one at my Grandpa's is gone, however there is a new one that has a younger heartbeat that is very strong, and with the help of the old one, it will go on!

Little Tweedles...I love seeing your forest and hearing about the oldest tree. It's dreamy to me, and the green colors and shade are so pretty. You are so lucky to have that in your back yard. I went to the Muir Woods in California years ago and saw the big trees and saw some that fell over and wondered if anyone saw them fall over. I wonder what the little animal friends thought when it happened. Kisses to you!

Hey there Tweedles

You have reminded me of this quote...you can listen to the song from where it comes on Max's blog (although I think you have heard it before):

“The world is full of strange behaviour. Every man has to be his own saviour. I know I can make it on my own if I try. But I'm searching for a Great Heart to stand me by. Underneath the African sky. A Great Heart to stand me by.”....Johnny Clegg
